Toxicity is a comedic, surreal romp through the ecstatic inner worlds of three millennial yoginis.
Taki, Rose and Josephine are members of a New Age commune searching for purity and healing. They become increasingly frustrated when, through their psychedelic meditations and workshops, they find nothing but consumerist facade and illusion. When their fantastical world is transgressed by entrepreneurs peddling salvation through mindset science, the women turn to pure creative expression to combat the salesmen’s expectations and advances.
Tonally, this film has a wacky, yet challenging, Feminist energy. A blend of live-action footage and 3D animation communicates a lighthearted but sincere approach to the philosophical questions the film asks. At different times a trippy drug fantasy, a sci-fi adventure, a female-buddy story, and a Feminist war cry, Toxicity is fun, surprising, and a little bit uncomfortable.
